Description
The Volvo Penta 2-leaf folding screw is designed for engines between 5-40 hp and is available in the left (for Sail drives) or right-turning, usually used on an axle. Volvo Penta Klap screws are available in multiple sizes and spurs for both Sail drives and Assen and they are made of an extremely strong and durable nibral (Nikkel-Brons-Aluminum) alloy.
The SailDrive hub also has a shock-absorbing rubber bus to insulate it from the SailDrive and reduce the load on the gearbox caused by switching between ahead and reverse. The hub also insulates the propeller of the SailDrive. Some aftermarket supports can cause corrosion around the lower house because they are electrically connected to the SailDrive axis. A folding screw must always be insulated from the SailDrive, with its own anode.
Volvo Penta Klap screws improve the performance of your boat, minimize the resistance and increase the speed - to 1.5 knots under sail, compared to a fixed screw. In addition, the propeller profile also puts gearbox noise under sail, the risk of hooking ropes and nets while sailing.
For 6 knots, for example, a 2-leaf fixed screw produces the resistance of a 2-leaf folding screw. This means that a typical journey over the English channel can be shortened to 4 hours thanks to a lower resistance.
